Dorothy Jurney information

Yesterday I received the divorce record of legendary women’s page editor Dorothy Jurney. (It was found in the State of Florida Office of Vital Statistics.)

Dorothy mentioned in her oral history that her husband Frank had appealed the ruling to the state Supreme Court. She also stated that she did not know why he had appealed the ruling for divorce.

The record reveals why he may have appealed the ruling. The divorce was granted on Dorothy’s grounds of “extreme cruelty.”

Here’s information about the appeal:

Florida Case Law
JURNEY v. JURNEY, 110 So.2d 49 (Fla.App. 3 Dist. 1959)
No. 58-197.
March 19, 1959. Rehearing Denied April 8, 1959.

The appellee-wife sued appellant for a divorce and the chancellor, after hearing the evidence, entered a final decree for the appellee-plaintiff-wife, and thereupon the husband-defendant appealed. We find error and reverse.

I am working on a revise-and-resumbit about Dorothy’s long career.
