    Happy 8th Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary to my wonderful husband and research partner Lance who knows as much about women’s page history as I do. It has been a wonderful eight years. Lance, Curtis & I are celebrating our anniversary and my birthday (tomorrow) in Boca Raton. The Penney-Missouri Award-winning women’s page editor from Boca was Sandra Wesley who I have been lucky enough to exchange a few emails with over the years. Above is a photo of Sandra – she is on the far left. Betty Preston (Glendale, CA, women’s page editor) is in the middle and Edee Greene (Fort Lauderdale women’s page editor) is on the right.

Great new image from the Penney-Missouri Award workshop

Yesterday, I received a copy of this image. (It can be found in the papers of the Penney-Missouri Awards at the University of Missouri’s Western Historical Manuscript Collection.) In this photo, taken at a Penney-Missouri Awards’ workshop, are three award-winning women’s page editors: Sandra Wesley, Betty Preston and Edee Greene. One of the strengths of the award program was the workshops that allowed winners to share their secrets for success. I presented a paper about Edee Greene, the women’s page editor at Fort Lauderdale News, last year. She was a fascinating person – a caring friend, a community advocate and a funny writer. I am working on a revision on…

    Biographical book about women journalists

I found this reference book at a used bookstore. It’s a great resource for researching women journalists. Included in the book are many women’s page editors including Gloria Biggs and Vivian Castleberry. Above is information about Betty Preston Oiler, a women’s page editor from Glendale, California. I am working on a revise-and-resubmit about Betty that I hope to finish over Spring Break.
