A Matter of Simple Justice
I have been re-reading this wonderful book, A Matter of Simple Justice. Here is a link to a website for the book. The book is about Barbara Hackman Franklin and her pioneering work in the Nixon Administration, along with several other government women. It is a good read and the research from primary sources is outstanding. I hope to track down some of the clips listed in the notes. My favorite parts of the book are about journalist Vera Glaser – whose work often ran in the women’s pages – and longtime government employee Catherine East – who often worked behind the scenes to sneak news to women’s page editors.…

Catherine East tribute
I just received a wonderful package from Duke Library. Among the papers was this DVD of a tribute to Catherine East. She was a great feminist leader who often worked with women’s page editors – especially Marie Anderson and Vera Glaser. I hope to watch the DVD later today.

New information on East and Glaser
I have discovered new information about my research topic in a collection at one of the Duke University Libraries. In the papers of the Veteran Feminists of America, I found documents about women’s page and political journalist Vera Glaser and government source Catherine East. Included in the papers is a DVD tribute to East. I just placed an order to get copies of the materials. I have already gone through East’s papers at Harvard University and Glaser’s papers at the University of Wyoming. I am working on a paper about how Glaser and East worked together to hold the government and media accountable. I hope to present the paper at…
