Eleanor Hart
I am making plans to go through the Miami Herald’s Eleanor Hart’s papers. She was a columnist from 1954 to 1966. She graduated from Ohio State in 1936. Her papers are at the Historical Museum of Southern Florida in Miami. She worked with Marie Anderson, Dorothy Jurney and Marjorie Paxson. Here’s a link to a story that mentions her reporting.

Cape Canaveral
We spent yesterday at Playalinda Beach – we have a season pass. It is located within the Cape Canaveral National Seashore. I get some of my best writing done there. It reminded me of the great article “The Gendered Anniversary: The Story of America’s Women Astronauts” in the Fall 2008 The Florida Historical Quarterly. It’s written by UCF history professor Amy Foster. It’s very well done.

Disney & Eleni

I’m looking forward to learning more about Eleni. The above photo is from Eleni’s papers at WHMC.

Miami Herald Club editor Roberta Applegate regularly wrote to her family about the Michigan State football and basketball teams. The Fort Lauderdale News women’s page editor Edee Greene began her journalism career as a sports columnist while in high school in Palatka, Florida. The biggest sports fan on my list was the Miami News women’s page editor Billie O’Day.She was a big fan of the University of Miami football team and was a regular on the sidelines. That’s her…
