Cecily Brownstone, Thanksgiving & the Green Bean Casserole
Cecily Brownstone was the longtime food editor at the Associated Press who is included in The Food Section: Newspaper Women and the Culinary Community. I think of her every Thanksgiving because of her connection to the green bean casserole. We are celebrating Thanksgiving early this year since we will spend the holiday at the beach. I am really enjoying this book, Rebels in White Gloves which details the lives of women who were in Hillary’s class at Wellesley College. There are several connections to the book I am writing about well-behaved women in the 1950s and 1960s.

New Kay Clarenbach image
I just found this new Kay Clarenbach image from 1966. Kay had a great working relationship with the Wisconsin women’s page editors. I went through her papers at the University of Wisconsin a few years ago.
