I just noticed that women’s page columnist Eleanor Hart is in this photo of the Miami Herald newsroom. That’s her standing near the filing cabinet. (The photo is at the WHMC. In Dorothy Jurney’s papers.) We went through Eleanor’s 1950s and 1960s columns at a Miami archive a few weeks ago.

Today I am working on a conference paper about the Fort Lauderdale News women’s page editor Edee Greene. She is referenced in this book about her city. The reference is about her threat to picket a restaurant that wanted to exclude women.

Dorothy Jurney information
Yesterday I received the divorce record of legendary women’s page editor Dorothy Jurney. (It was found in the State of Florida Office of Vital Statistics.) Dorothy mentioned in her oral history that her husband Frank had appealed the ruling to the state Supreme Court. She also stated that she did not know why he had appealed the ruling for divorce. The record reveals why he may have appealed the ruling. The divorce was granted on Dorothy’s grounds of “extreme cruelty.” Here’s information about the appeal: Florida Case LawJURNEY v.
