Dorothy Jurney revisions
I just received my copy of the above pamphlet written by women’s page legend Dorothy Jurney. I am working on a revise-and-resubmit article about Dorothy for a national journal. Below is the first page of the pamphlet.

Dorothy Jurney
This image is of a Richard Misener’s statue. Here is a link to the odd story about its placement on the bridge named for Misener. Richard was the brother of legendary women’s page editor Dorothy Misener Jurney. I hope to find some of his family in Florida. I am completing revisions on a revise-and-resubmit for a national journal.

Eleanor Hart
I am making plans to go through the Miami Herald’s Eleanor Hart’s papers. She was a columnist from 1954 to 1966. She graduated from Ohio State in 1936. Her papers are at the Historical Museum of Southern Florida in Miami. She worked with Marie Anderson, Dorothy Jurney and Marjorie Paxson. Here’s a link to a story that mentions her reporting.

Dorothy Jurney
I just found this reference to Dorothy Jurney’s parents. Her mother, Mary Zeola Hershey Misener was elected to the Indiana State Legislature in 1929. She is listed in A Biographical Directory of the Indiana General Assembly, Vol. 2. Mary Zeola Hershey Misener was born on Oct. 22, 1878 in Ohio. She attended Otterbein College for three years and graduated from King’s School of Oratory in 1900. She married Dorothy’s father in 1905. This photo from the WHMC shows the newsroom of her father’s newspaper, the Michigan City News. This is an earlier post about Dorothy.

Revising Dorothy Jurney article
I am in the midst of revising my article on Dorothy Jurney for a journalism history journal. She was known as the “Godmother” of women’s page editors. Here she is pictured (standing) with a young Al Neuharth. The photo is part of the National Women and Media Collection at the University of Missouri. A timeline of her journalism career is noted in the previous post.
