Repost: Cecily Brownstone & the Green Bean Casserole
Cecily Brownstone was the longtime food editor at the Associated Press who is include in The Food Section: Newspaper Women and the Culinary Community. I think of her every Thanksgiving because of her connection to the green bean casserole. According to a 2007 post from Saveur magazine:“It wasn’t until 1955, however, that the dish’s most steadfast incarnation entered the scene. AFJ: Roy Peter Clark Talk
I had a wonderful time listening to Roy Peter Clark speak at the Association for Food Journalists Conference in St. Petersburg at the Poynter Institute. His analysis of food writer M.F.K. Fisher’s work was wonderful and a good lesson in storytelling.

History of Washington State Food Editors
I am going over the page proofs for the upcoming “Recipes & Reporting” for Columbia Magazine. The article is about the food editors from Washington State; all of the editors used pen names which made the research challenging. The article will be published this summer.
