Women’s History Month: Day 12 & Bertha Cochran Hahn
Day 12 of Women’s History Month features Miami News food editor Bertha Cochran Hahn. She worked with Billie O’Day who I blogged about yesterday. Bertha Cochran Hahn earned a home economics degree from Purdue University and worked as a home demonstration agent. During World War II, she became a second lieutenant in the Army Medical Crops and was stationed in Air Force hospitals. After the war, she earned a journalism degree from the University of Miami. Rebels in White Gloves
I am really enjoying this book, Rebels in White Gloves which details the lives of women who were in Hillary’s class at Wellesley College. There are several connections to the book I am writing about well-behaved women in the 1950s and 1960s.

Happy to contribute a chapter to a book about Midwest Women and Politics – focusing on Kay Clarenbach. She is a significant part of my upcoming book about women and politics in the 1950s and 1960s.

Her book Politicking Politely: Well-Behaved Women Making a Difference in the 1960s and 1970s profiles a half-dozen female journalists and political operatives who worked behind the scenes to push for change. “Without them, a lot of what happens in the…
