New Image of Dorothy Jurney & Marie Anderson
Jeanne Voltz was kind enough to share this great 1959 image of Miami Herald women’s page editors Dorothy Jurney and Marie Anderson. Jeanne’s mother was the food editor at the Herald in the 1950s. Dorothy Jurney was the women’s page editor at the Miami Herald in the 1950s, with Marie Anderson as her assistant. When Dorothy moved on the Detroit Free Press in the 1950s, Marie became the editor. Under her leadership, the women’s page section was retired from the Penney Missouri Awards – the top recognition for the pages – because it won so many times.

Cookbook Dedication: Day Two
Most of the newspaper food editors in my book, The Food Section, wrote cookbooks. Many included tributes that were helpful in understanding their lives and their relationships. Women’s History Month: Jeanne Voltz
Day one of Women’s History Month features the first food editor I ever studied: Miami Herald & Los Angeles Times food editor Jeanne Voltz. I will be blogging about a different food editor from my book, The Food Section, each day this month. Like several other food editors, Voltz wrote cookbooks – including one of my favorites, The Florida Cookbook. Today, Voltz’s recipe for Green Corn Tamales can be found on the Food Network website with a note giving credit to her acclaimed book, Barbecued Ribs, Smoked Butts, and Other Great Feeds. James Beard, a well-known name in food and a contemporary of Julia Child, wrote of the book, “Jeanne…
