Women’s History Month: Day 15 & Virginia Heffington
Day 15 of Women’s History Month features Virginia Heffington – a food editor in Florida and later California. Recently, the Miami Herald cited a recipe from its 1960s food editor Virginia Heffington. This is the book that Heffington wrote in 1968 when she was the Homemaking Editor of the Miami Herald. At that point she had been at the Herald for five years and had won a Vesta Award – the top recognition for food journalism. Happy to see The Food Section was included in the 2016 Catalog. I am now working on a book about Miami food history which includes food editors Jeanne Voltz and Virginia Heffington. I will be blogging about my research in July.

Miami: A Food Biography
I am excited to announce that I just signed a book contract for a book about Miami food. It means an opportunity to study some of my favorite Florida food editors – Jane Nickerson, Jeanne Voltz & Virginia Heffington. The book proposal was based on the lectures I gave at Rollins College this past summer. It will be my Spring-Summer 2016 project with a few trips to Miami along the way.
