I came across this wonderful information about Jeanne Rounds Olsen who worked as “Dorothy Neighbors,” the pen name for the food editor at the Seattle Times. My thanks to the archivists at Washington State University who helped me find the materials and learn more about Olsen.

AJHA Talk: Academic Spouses Collaborating
I was pleased to learn that our AJHA panel was accepted. It’s called: “Co-authorship and Collaboration in Historical Research.” I will speak about my work with my husband Lance Speere. Together, we have published numerous articles and now we are working on a book. Here is a link to a great talk that Lance gave in 2008 at the AEJMC-AJHA talk in New York City about our work together. He was the president of CMA at the time.

Edee Greene Article in Tequesta
I am excited to announce that my article about Fort Lauderdale women’s page editor Edee Greene is finally out in Tequesta. She is one of my favorite Florida editors. She made a big difference for women and had lots of fun doing it. I will be speaking about her at several Florida history events this fall.

Teatime to Tailgates & Kathleen Kelly
Just read Teatime to Tailgates and absolutely loved it. Author Jane P. Marshall documented 150 or food, cooking and home economics history at Kansas State University. (Lance is a K-State graduate.) She also includes lots of great recipes. It’s a great read for culinary historians and those interested in regional histories. My favorite part of the book was the history of women who became food editors. There are two K-State graduates in my book, The Food Section: Clementine Paddleford and Ruth Gorrell Gray.
