2018 Florida Historical Society Meeting
The dates and location for the 2018 Florida Historical Society Meeting have been announced. I plan to speak about the women’s pages of the Miami Herald – including Marie Anderson, Dorothy Jurney, Jeanne Voltz, Marjorie Paxson and Eleanor Hart.

Talking About Florida Women’s Page Editors
I am looking forward to presenting “Pioneering Florida Women’s Page Journalists: Managing Conflict and Encouraging Compromise in Their Communities, 1950s and 1960s,” at the Florida Council for History Education conference in Sarasota. Mixed in with the advertisements in the 1950s and 1960s, there were several newspaper women’s pages that included stories that were part of the women’s movement’s platform – stories about domestic violence, the Equal Rights Amendment and abortion reform. These stories reached large audiences and impacted the work of other editors and women leaders. The circulations of the papers were high so the work of the women editors reached large segments of their own communities and sometimes beyond…

Kathryn Robinette Article in The Tustenegee
My article “Kathryn Robinette: Redefining Society News in 1960s Palm Beach,” was published yesterday in The Tustenegee, the journal of the Palm Beach Historical Society. Robinette will be part of my book about women’s page journalists coming out in 2018.

Newspaper Mention of my Roxcy Bolton Research
Great to see a newspaper mention of my research about Roxcy Bolton, a Florida icon. From the article:“Many of Roxcy’s missions in advocacy began with a phone call to her home in Coral Gables. One time, the woman on the other end of the receiver had been arrested for indecent exposure for breastfeeding her baby in a Miami park. Roxcy hung up and immediately called Attorney General Bob Shevin in Tallahassee, insisting that he be pulled out of a meeting because of an emergency. Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society Conference
We had a great time at the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society Conference this past weekend at Daytona Beach – out third conference in 4 weeks. I spoke about her cookbook, Cross Creek Cookery, which is celebrating its 75 anniversary. I plan to write it up as a formal journal paper this summer.
