Jim Bellows’ Memorial
The amazing Jim Bellow’s memorial was on Friday. I loved this column about the memorial. It made me cry. Jim was married to women’s page editor Maggie Savoy in the 1960s until her death in December 1970. I plan to write an article about Jim and his role in helping women in journalism.

Jim and Maggie in New York
Lance and I are in New York City for our annual visit. Jim Bellows and Maggie Savoy lived in New York City for a few years. (Maggie was the women’s page editor in Phoenix when she left the position to marry Jim.) They held great parties and practiced great journalism. They were an amazing couple. I interviewed Jim on the phone during one of our New York trips a few years ago. His memorial was on Friday. I am so glad I had the opportunity to speak to him about Maggie. He will be missed.

Vera Glaser presentation
Tomorrow I am presenting a paper on women’s page political columnist Vera Glaser at a conference in New York City. Here is paperwork from Vera Glaser’s appearance on Meet the Press. It can be found in her papers at the University of Wyoming.

Edee Greene divorce
I received the Fort Lauderdale News women’s page editor Edee Greene’s divorce decree. It was granted in 1951 for extreme cruelty and was not contested by her husband. (He left her for one of Edee’s friends.) She received no alimony and had to raise three children by herself. That’s what led to her first professional journalism position at the Orlando Sentinel.

Vera Glaser event
I just found this information about the 1963 American Newspaperwomen’s Club event that Vera Glaser co-hosted. The above image is from the event. Here is a link to audio of the event. Both are found at the University of Denver. I am working on a paper about women’s page political reporter Vera Glaser. I am presenting it at a conference in New York City this weekend. I went through Vera’s papers at the University of Wyoming last year.

Beverley Morales’ daughter, Maria
I tracked down this image of Maria Helena Morales’ gravesite. She was the daughter of Sun-Sentinel women’s page editor Beverley Morales. Last week I received the divorce decree of Beverley and her husband, Hector. They were divorced on May 22, 1967. Little Maria died in a drowning accident on June 26, 1967. What a difficult time that must have been.
