Florida Communication Association Conference, 2015
It was another week and another conference. Yesterday I presented “Everything Old is New Again: Historical Take on New Directions in Communication” at the Florida Communication Association Conference. In the paper, I looked at how women’s page editors used social media strategies like being hyperlocal, crowd sourcing and creating community in the 1950s and the 1960s – especially at Florida newspapers.

Miami: A Food Biography
I am excited to announce that I just signed a book contract for a book about Miami food. It means an opportunity to study some of my favorite Florida food editors – Jane Nickerson, Jeanne Voltz & Virginia Heffington. The book proposal was based on the lectures I gave at Rollins College this past summer. It will be my Spring-Summer 2016 project with a few trips to Miami along the way.

I was happy to have my column about Florida food and the women’s pages of newspapers in the Gainesville Sun today. I am looking forward to speaking about the topic at the Matheson History Museum in Gainesville tomorrow afternoon.
